Skincare Sunday: Burt’s Bees Acne Collection

Walking down the aisles of the drugstore, you won’t usually find me in the beauty aisles.

I haven’t had the best luck finding drugstore skincare products that actually work, so I tend to just avoid them altogether.

However, when I first came across Burt’s Bees line of acne treatments on Ulta’s website and saw that all of the products had 4-star ratings or better, I decided to pick them up next time I was at the store.

A few days later, I ended up purchasing them from Target because 1) I’m always shopping there + 2) Target has a great return policy for beauty items.

Reusable bag in hand, I left with the purifying gel cleanser, herbal complexion stick, and the spot treatment.

There’s a wide range of Burt’s Bees acne products sold by Target- like the gentle foaming cleanser (which I’d love to try next!), a daily moisturizer, and a 3-step acne kit.  But, I just chose a few that I thought would be best for my needs.

Something that drew me to this line was its natural emphasis + design. The cleanser and spot treatment are made from willow bark and the complexion stick is made of tea tree oil.

Upon use, all of the products have a fresh, almost minty scent + feel soothing and chilling on the skin.

I like to use the cleanser in the mornings to refresh my skin because it’s simple + gentle.

The stick and the spot treatment have unusual applicators. The complexion stick features a roller ball and the spot product I’ve been applying with a cotton ball.

However, I’ve found that with a light hand the roller ball doesn’t agitate my skin.

The only downside of the two treatments is that they can sting a little in places that acne is particularly active in, so be prepared for a temporary stinging feeling if you apply a generous amount in such areas.

The results haven’t been miraculous, but they been satisfactory and I can’t get over how refreshing they make my skin feel. The cool, minty-like scent is so nice!

Out of the products I’ve tried the cleanser is the one I’d be most likely to repurchase because it didn’t irritate my skin at all, foams easily, and is an ideal basic face wash for daily use.

Overall though, these products have not been too harsh on my sensitive skin and I love their refreshing scents! For a drugstore skincare line they are the best that I’ve found + I can’t wait to try their other products 🙂

Love always,

Holy Grail Foundation: Nars Sheer Glow (20% off)

The past three months or so I’ve been testing + loving a new foundation.

If there’s one makeup product that I am most picky about, it is definitely foundation.

When testing out foundations I look at the coverage, finish, wear times, and how well it works with my oily skin.

Since I usually lean towards foundations that are high coverage, satin-matte finish, and last 12+ hours, most of the ones that I try are misses.

In the past, my go-to was the Estee Lauder Double Wear. But, over time I grew tired of the “double wear” part, or how thick it felt on. It seemed like my skin couldn’t breathe under it.  Looking for a more lightweight foundation that still was still medium-full coverage, I found the Nars Sheer Glow.

I swatched a few shades on my neck at Sephora and left with the shade Punjab / Medium 1 (medium with peachy + golden undertones). This shade is the best match to my skin that I’ve ever been able to find, so I LOVED it right off the bat.

How well did it work?

  • coverage: medium-full
  • finish: satin / mostly matte with a soft glow
  • wear time: ~10 hours, longer with powder touch ups
  • designed for normal-dry skin types, but I found that it also works great for oily skin, I just like to set with a translucent powder (especially Laura Mercier’s)
  • claimed to be hydrating, and I found that it is. In the past I’ve had combination skin, but using this in the fall has prevented my skin from being dry at all.

Overall, I couldn’t be more happy with this foundation. It’s like my skin, but better. It gives me enough coverage while having a naturally radiant finish. I can’t feel the foundation on my skin at all throughout the day, I love how lightweight it is!

I think it would work well on all skin types, and is available in a range of 20 shades.

This product is particularly perfect for the fall, when the colder air can dry the skin and thus hydrating your skin is often more important than in the summer.

I tend not to write blog posts all about one beauty product (unless I really loved it + would highly recommend it). So, you know that this product is really worth your time + money!

**Now – tomorrow Nars is offering 20% sitewide, sent to you when you submit your email on their website.

Regularly, the sheer glow foundation retails for $47, but is now $37.60 with code. Almost $10 off a high-end foundation is always a good deal (since beauty doesn’t go on sale as often as other items, like clothes).

Shipping is free over $25, free samples available & free return shipping!

Happy cyber Monday shopping!

Love always,

Colourpop: Gimme More Highlighter Palette

Okay, I’ll tone it down… But seriously, Colourpop’s Gimme More highlighting palette is such a great value!

This palette includes 6 highlighters, ranging from champagnes to pinks to rose gold & true golds. Each shade is quite pigmented and (as you can see) swatches beautifully.

If the swatches didn’t steal your heart, then maybe the price will. For six highlighters you only pay $18…. That’s 6 highlighters for under $20…?!

Compared to Anastasia Beverley Hill’s Glow Kit, which also includes 6 highlighters, you pay half the price for the same number of highlighters.

Plus, I never tend to use up a whole highlighter, so by adding this palette to my collection I have a color for every look without unnecessarily splurging. I’m officially set for life when it comes to highlighters, thanks Colourpop!!

If you’ve never heard of Colourpop (which was me earlier this year) they are a California-based brand that is known for high quality products at drugstore prices.  They’re also a great option if you’re looking for cruelty dupes for popular high-end products.

Their products are all available online, but recently a few have become available at Sephora as well.

Due to its popularity, this palette has been sold out multiple times, and is currently out of stock 😦

On the bright side, Colourpop tends to be pretty quick when it comes to restocking, so be sure to sign up for restocking notifications via email if you’re interested in purchasing.

Bonus- Colourpop offers $5 off your first purchase with email sign-up & free shipping in the United States for purchases over $30.

All I can say is I can never have enough Colourpop, gimme more please! 😉

Love always,

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

This summer’s hottest new eyeshadow palette is hands down the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette.

Heat launched about two months ago & has been flying off the shelves. Straight from the source, this palette is available from Urban Decay.

However, I purchased mine in-store from Sephora (after swatching the shades on my arm + falling in love with them) and they are still available on their website for $54.

Both Urban Decay + Sephora offer free shipping with this palette.

What is it?

As the fourth installation into Urban Decay’s Naked eye shadow palette series, this one stands out from its predecessors. While the other three Naked palettes focused on neutrals, this one turns up the temp by featuring more amber & sienna shadows (warm neutrals). Overall, the theme of this naked palette is bolder + warmer than the previous ones.

Intended for creating warmer, intense, & more interesting / red-ish looks, it includes 12 shades (6 shimmer + 6 matte).

As usual, the palette includes a mirror and a double sided eye brush.

As someone who did not love the older palettes in the Naked collection, I did not have the highest of expectations for this one. I just never find myself reaching for the other Naked palettes.

However, I found these feisty warm-toned shades (esp. DIRTY TALK) much more to my taste.

As a true shimmer-girl at heart, these shimmers seal the deal for me. I love the range of shimmers from very light to pinky/red to dark.

  • soft, creamy shadows
  • all the warm neutrals you’ll ever need
  • beautiful shimmer shades (my personal favs)
  • good for smokey eyes
  • decent pigmentation
  • perfect for summer + transitioning into fall

  • pricey ($54), but if you are a Sephora beauty insider you can earn extra points now!
  • more lighter shades than I really need (between Ounce/ Chaser & Sauced/Low Blow I only truly need one of each). However, if you like lighter looks or just a variety of transition shades to build up the look then it isn’t a con!
  • As you can see in the swatches (below) I found the darker shades to be somewhat patchy and more difficult to blend than the other shades, but this is a common issue with darker eyeshadows

With all of that being said, this palette allows you to create light, summery, shimmery looks as well as more intense, smoky, looks that are perfect for transitioning into autumn.

What are your thoughts on the new Heat palette? Hit or miss? Wearable or not?

Which palettes are you loving at the moment? I always love to discover new products 🙂

Skincare Sunday: Murad Complete Acne Control 30-Day Kit

As someone who as been battling with my acne for years now, I am constantly seeking new treatment products.

This kit by Murad includes the first high-end skincare products that I’ve tried. Fortunately, this line is tailored to oily and combination skin types (which is what I have).

Before I purchased this kit from Sephora, I tried samples of the cleanser and the spot treatment to make sure that they would agree with my sensitive skin.

What comes in the kit

For just under $40 ($60 value) you get 5 mini-sized bottles:

  • Clarifying Cleanser: has built-in toner, no strong scent, leaves skin feeling refreshed, “delivers time-released acne medication that remains active for hours, even after rinsing” (description on product)
  • 2 treatments:
    • Acne Clearing Solution: for use all-over the face
    • Rapid Relief Spot Treatment: to target specific problem areas
  • 2 moisturizers: one for day & one for night:
    • Oil-Control Matifier: day lotion, SPF 15, can be used as a make-up primer as it is matifying
    • Skin Perfecting Lotion: night lotion (no SPF)

My experience

At first, I used all of the products as they are intended to be used (cleanser, then all over acne clearing solution, then spot treatment, then day/night moisturizer). However, I found that the acne clearing solution did not do much for my skin and the moisturizers were okay, but I did not repurchase those in full-sized bottles since I am happy with my tried & tested Neutrogena moisturizers from the drugstore.

None of these products changed my oiliness (for worse or better) or caused me to breakout, despite having sensitive skin.

Since then, I bought the full-size versions of the clarifying cleanser ($30) and the spot treatment ($22).

I have been using these two for about a month now and am satisfied. I will most likely repurchase-unless I come across a better product!

My advice

If you have acne + oily/combination and/or sensitive skin then I highly recommend picking up samples of this Murad system from Sephora. Online the kit does say that it is good for all skin types, but I can only speak for my own.

In my opinion, the cleanser & spot treatment are the most important so I would ask to try those before investing money into them- b/c why not take advantage of Sephora’s free samples?

What are your thoughts on this acne system? What are your go-to acne treatments? Please share! 🙂

Thank you for reading & happy skincare sunday!

Love always,

Sephora Cream Lip Stains

Hey hey happy friyay!

Today I want to share the longest-lasting, cheapest, & most pigmented liquid lipsticks that I’ve tried!

Drum roll please…

I’m talking about the SEPHORA CREAM LIP STAINS.

These liquid lipsticks are Sephora exclusives and are available for $14, which is less than other popular liquid lipsticks like Anastasia’s Liquid Lipstick ($20) or Too Faced’s Melted Matte Long Wear Lipstick ($22).

Why do I love them?

  • available in a wide range of colors (wink wink, MARVELOUS MAUVE)
  • last all day (I have over 12 hour days and rarely have to retouch)
  • sweet birthday cake / vanilla scent
  • affordable for high-end beauty products
  • full-coverage / solid pigmentation (one layer is enough)
  • no peeling like some liquid lipsticks
  • does not dry out my lips
  • does not feel heavy or sticky

7: Cherry Blossom– a bright pink, photographs beautifully, my #1 spring shade

6: Pink Souffle– a light everyday pink

13: Marvelous Mauve– a true mauve color, MY FAV, popular shade

24: Burnt Sienna– a dark cool-toned pinky brown, works year-round

14: Blackberry Sorbet– a dark berry shade, great for fall

1: Always Red– classic red, a must-have

Let me know your thoughts on Sephora’s Cream Lip Stains + your all-time fav shades!

Peach Beauty Collection

Hello lovelies! I hope you are enjoying the summer sunshine 🙂

As I was looking through my summer beauty collection I couldn’t help but notice that a bunch of the products that I own are peach-themed. So, I thought I’d share my favorite peachy products of the moment-all of which are summer staples!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette

Besides smelling deliciously peachy, this palette has all of the shades (18 in total) you could dream of for summertime. It features a great balance of neutrals, shimmers, mattes, and pops of color (pink, purple, green).

Nectar & Luscious are my favorite shimmer shades for creating a natural-looking, glowy eye. To finish off my go-to easy summer eye, I like to pop Puree into the crease.

Of course, this palette also has all of the colors you need to create a pink peachy eye as well.

Shadows are highly pigmented, silky to the touch, and easy to blend.

It retails for $49 USD, and is my holy grail eye palette! I recommend ordering directly from Too Faced, as they often offer promo codes.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow Palette

If you’re looking for a natural-looking (and yummy smelling) highlighting kit for summer than look no further! Too Faced’s glow palette has 3 beautiful products in one. You get a highlighter (my fav), a peachy blush, & a light warm-toned bronzer.

To apply the blush and highlighter I use my finger to get the most pigmentation that I can out of the product and then blend with a brush.

Out of the three, the bronzer is my least favorite because it is too light for my skin tone (unless I spend more time building it up). However, I think it would look great on fairer skin tones and it does work well in the crease as an eyeshadow.

It is available for $42 from Too Faced, Sephora, Macy’s, & Ulta.

Overall, I recommend this palette for traveling, since it is a 3-in-1, and for creating lighter, more natural summer looks!

Too Faced Sweethearts Blush in Sparkling Bellini

As I mentioned in a previous post, Too Faced’s Sweethearts blush collection is hands-down AMAZING. It features four shades, each containing three different baked blushes.

Up until a few months ago I used this blush in the shade Something About Berry, and it was my holy grail blush-that is, until I tried the shade Sparkling Bellini.

This shade includes three shimmery, peachy pink/coral shades that are ideal for spring and summer months. Since purchasing, I have reached for it nearly every day.

Also, these baked blushed last FOREVER. I used Something About Berry for 6 months + without even coming close to hitting pan.

These are 100% worth investing in as you get 3 blushes in 1 and a gorgeous shimmery finish.

Pretty as a Peach lotion + hand sanitizer (Bath & Body Works)

Mini lotion and hand sanitizer from B&B can always be found in my bag because I use them daily. I love how fresh and sweet this scent is for spring and summer. Plus, B&B is always having great sales.

Current promo: $1 shipping for orders over $30 w/ code “SUMMERMUST”

What are you summer beauty favorites? Do you love peachy products? Let me know your thoughts below!

Thank you for reading and I would be more than happy to answer any questions you  may have about these products 🙂

Love always,

Skincare Sunday: Neutrogena Collection

This week I am sharing my favorite products from Neutrogena!

I have been using all of these for the last few years and keep repurchasing because of how accessible & affordable they are + they get the job done.

All of these products are available at the drugstore.

Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes

These makeup wipes work for removing everything from mascara to liquid lipstick. They do not irritate my sensitive skin or cause breakouts.

I have not found any downsides with these!

Tip: Keep a travel-sized pack of these in your bag in case you need them during the day

Oil-Free Acne Face Wash (pink grapefruit)

This has been my go-to cleanser for probably five years now.

The beads are great for scrubbing to remove all dirt, but are not too abrasive for my sensitive skin. The wash foams easily and a little bit goes a long way.

I like to keep one of these in the shower, in case I forget to wash my face before.

Once again, I have no cons regarding this face wash. Love it!

Oil-Free Moisture with Sunscreen (SPF 35)

This is my everyday moisturizer. It is lightweight, creamy/ easy to apply, and non-oily.

My favorite part is that it contains SPF 35. Although many days in Seattle are cloudy, I always like to wear sunscreen under my makeup to protect my skin from the sun’s rays. This product makes it impossible to forget to apply sunscreen, since it is built right into my daily moisturizer.

I also love how thin the bottle is because because it fits into my beauty bag perfectly for traveling. No complaints.

Light Night Cream

While I do use this often, I’d have to say that it is my least favorite product out of those mentioned above.

It is described as light, but it is actually a pretty thick, heavy moisturizer.

So, although it is not the most comfortable to wear (it is oily), it does thoroughly moisturize my skin while I’m asleep.

This product is good to use once in awhile, but I definitely don’t use it every night or as often as I used to.

Thank you for reading!

Let me know what your favorite Neutrogena products are or your experiences with these ones!

Love always,

Skincare Sunday: Clinique Acne Solutions

Happy sunny sunday everyone!

Today I am starting a new reoccuring segment of my blog, “Skincare Sunday,” in which I will share skincare products that I have recently tried & tested out and let you know my honest thoughts on them.

Just for reference, my skin is sensitive and combination type.

So, the product for this week is the Clinique Acne Solutions 3 step kit.

I purchased mine online from Macy’s. It is also sold by Sephora and Ulta.

What it comes with:

  1. cleansing foam: a foaming face wash
  2. clarifying lotion: to use right after washing, very similar to a toner
  3. all-over clearing treatment: to use after the lotion, a non-scented, lightweight, treatment cream

How to use:

Just like any other 3-step acne kits, use the products in the order recommended.

Step 2 requires shaking because, as you will see, much of the product will settle on the bottom of the bottle. Apply step 2 with a cotton ball.

This regiment is supposed to be used multiple times a day if possible (however, it was too drying for me to do this).

The good and the bad:

  • didn’t irritate my sensitive skin
  • no strong smell
  • foaming cleanser is refreshing and leaves the skin feeling smooth

  • too drying to use twice a day
  • did not make my acne worse, but did not make it better either

Purchase again or nah?

Personally, since this product did not improve my complexion I will not be repurchasing. However, it was not a harsh product and overall did really well with my sensitive skin.

This product may work better for those who do not get dry skin easily because then it could be used morning and night, rather than just once a day.

All in all, I prefer this system to the Proactiv one, but will keep searching for something better!

Any suggestions for acne treatment systems? I’d love to hear them!

Love always,
