There are many types of peace but the one that is of increasing importance to me is the peace of what is unchanging. At my very core I need an everlasting peace that is never fleeting or dependent upon outside circumstances. The only such peace is that which comes from focusing my thoughts on God.
So many aspects of our lives are temporary: occupation, relationships, location, and health( just to name a few). Any one of these things can change in a moment and disrupt peace that depend upon earthly condition that we cannot control.
By definition, the only peace that does not depend on something wordly is the peace that God gives us, because it comes from a source that is unchanging and eternal.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27
God has given his peace to all of us, whether we know it or not. His peace is not reserved for certain people or only accessible at certain times. Rather, it is a gift that is ready for us at all times when we trust in Him.
So, if you, like me, find yourself searching for a deeper peace then open your mind and heart to God and focus your thoughts on his word. It will take practice and work like all worthwhile things do, but you will begin to hear God’s voice and be able to rest in his peace.
